What is GSMN?

The GSMN is an initiative to identify, nurture and support both Gippsland secondary school students with the academic aptitude and desire to study medicine and current undergraduate medical students who have grown up in Gippsland or have strong ties to Gippsland.

Medical students fall into 3 categories:

  • Gippsland origin students  studying outside of the region
  • Gippsland origin students studying at one of the Monash Rural Health Clinical School sites located throughout Gippsland including the Monash Graduate entry program at the Churchill campus.
  • Undergraduate medical students not of Gippsland origin but who have chosen to study and pursue the rural pathway option in Gippsland

“Thank you so much for providing us with this great opportunity – the Gippsland Students’ Medical Network is a fantastic way for students to learn a lot about careers they are interested in.”

“The last Gippsland Students’ Medical Network session was really worthwhile, there is no doubt in my mind now. I want to become a doctor and I want to come back to the country. I’ve known for a while but this just confirms it!”
